4-2-4 (A) Formation in Online Soccer Manager (OSM)

4-2-4 (A) is one of the underrated formations in Online Soccer Manager (OSM). You can use this formation when you don’t have many midfielders or high rated midfielders. You can use this formation against teams with many midfielders like 4-5-1,4-2-3-1,5-4-1 etc to skip the midfielders and directly attack using the defenders and forwards. 4-2-4 (A) is a similar formation to 4-2-4 (B). In 4-2-4 (A), we use two CMs instead of two CDMs of 4-2-4 (B).

First, we have to analyze our opponent’s squad before playing this formation. We should avoid this tactics if opponent is playing with –

• Counter attack
• No Offside trap
• Zonal Marking

Simply, this tactic is not for playing against teams playing with defensive tactics. If the opponent is not playing with these you are good to go.

Squad:

You must put 2 strikers in ST positions, a left winger in LW and a right winger in RW in front. In the two CM positions, you can use two CM or one CM with a CDM with highly rated. You must put two central backs in CB positions, a left back to LB position and a right back to RB position. You can use CB in LB or RB positions too. You must put our highest rated goalkeeper in GK position. Try to put 6 players of the same nationality to get the nationality bonus while playing the match.

Explaination:

In this tactic, the players will press opponents when they lose the ball. And when they get the ball, they directly pass the ball to the forwards to score goals. This tactic avoids opponents' midfielders.
